'If "the reflective" can be described as a medium, it is one in which the viewer becomes the author, because without the viewer it is impossible to discern the something, or even the nothing, that is there.'

Untitled (2012)
Abstract expressionist painting created through
emotional circular gestures. I became intrigued by the layering of the
paint and the lines created through the process - forming depth and shadow in
different lighting. I wanted to create a painting that was not fixed just to
the wall, but had a kind of human interactive element to it - touching the
floor. I am interested in the action of the painter and included the
painted plastic sheeting used during the event. It was the result of the making
and something that may not of been seen and even discarded - but is a
significant part of the finished painting. The rope forms an attachment or
a relationship with the self and other. A birth cord you could say - like a
bond between mother and child or one world to another. I found that I
wanted the viewer to become part of the art piece through a mirror - a
reflection.
